A close up black and white image of a human ear with a jagged oblong shape overlaid that darkens the image with purple and red.

On the cover of Ziggy Stardust, D. Bowie is rocking a Liberty print shirt. For the shoot, I guess they walked the streets of London late while most of the city was sleeping. I imagine this cosmically minded rocker and his entourage singing about space, grounded in proper London speech and manners. That juxtaposition has long drawn me to English culture. Liberty as neo-Tudor wonderland perched like a parked ship smack in the middle of Soho that carries you away to the far corners of the world with their endlessly patterned fabrics, exemplifies this “brilliant” mash-up. It is one of our most favorite stores on the planet. We wanted to make them a fragrance that is wild, full, fancy, and English.-D.S.
